Welcome to The Russian Tea Room

LOCATIONS

The Russian Tea Room, located at 150 W 57th St, New York, NY 10019, captivates guests with its opulent decor and rich cultural heritage. A true gem in the heart of Manhattan, this establishment has been an iconic destination for nearly a century, merging elegance with culinary excellence. As a food reviewer for Restaurant World, I find myself enchanted every time I walk through its historic doors, greeted by the alluring aroma of traditional Russian dishes and an ambiance steeped in nostalgia.

This tea room stands out not just for its lavish interior, adorned with intricate Russian motifs and plush red booths, but also for its exceptional menu that showcases the best of Russian cuisine. You can begin your culinary journey with their decadent Caviar Omelette, perfectly paired with savory Rosti potatoes, or the delightful Scrambled Eggs with Smoked Salmon, which comes with fresh dill and sour cream; each bite is a masterpiece that echoes routine meals of Russian grandeur.

  • Brunch Specials: Experience the enticing Smoked Salmon Platter for $36, featuring velvety cream cheese and perfectly toasted bagels, or indulge in the truffle-infused Quiche. The soft, creamy texture mingling with the earthiness of truffles is simply unforgettable.
  • Viennoiserie: The Mixed Basket, a delightful collection of croissants and pain au chocolat, promises a sweet start to the day. At $18, it's an essential treat for any pastry lover.
  • Desserts: Do not overlook the remarkable Baked Alaska, which customers rave about. With a perfect balance of flavors, it tops off a meal with a touch of theatrical flair.

The reviews speak volumes about the experience within these walls. Guests rave about the fantastic service and delicious cuisine, with one visitor, Jessica V., claiming it’s a NYC staple—a must-visit for anyone seeking the authentic Russian dining experience. However, the occasional lapse in service can occur, as noted by a few patrons. Yet, reflective of the restaurant’s storied past, the charm of dining here overshadows any fleeting service issues.

One can almost hear the echoes of laughter and conversation that fill the dining room, accompanied by the comforting sounds of clinking glasses and the delicate strains of classical music. It's a place where memories are forged, and as noted by Jennifer Y., each visit is etched in the memory like a cherished family tradition.

In conclusion, The Russian Tea Room is more than just a restaurant; it’s a cultural experience that celebrates the richness of Russian heritage. Whether indulging in delicate borscht paired with beef pirozhok or savoring a classic tea service, every dining experience here is a passionate reminder of the culinary arts. If you haven't yet made a stop at this historic venue, I wholeheartedly recommend you do soon—your taste buds will thank you!

Fantastic service, fantastic food, and absolutely beautiful restaurant with history. A NYC staple and must stop at least once. Best dirty martini I've ever had!

Celebrating its 99th year anniversary is this institution. Ashamed it'd be if it disappears, and yet it seems likely to happen from the emptiness of this restaurant this Friday evening. Ornate and grand as always is their dining room. Seated we were in one of their luxurious red booth. Flood of memories of the past decades here with my parents, my stage friends, and, extended family. Cordial and pleasant was the service this evening. A light dinner of decadent caviar, humble borscht, and bites of a delightful Ukrainian honey cake. Ending the evening with their serving of sweetened cherries in my lovely mint tea. Etched in my memory is of this date. Perhaps, I'll be able to celebrate their 100th anniversary next year! CHEERS!

A luxurious lunch at The Russian Tea Room was the consensus of my table of 6. Beautiful surroundings, food and service. We were put at ease despite the historic and lavish surroundings. We loved the experience and can't wait to return.

Ambiance: very opulent, old school Russian decor with multiple floors. Upstairs definitely has the better decor and more quiet and cozy Food: very pleasantly surprised by how good the food is. It was my first time having Russian food. The borscht is a signature and classic Russian dish that is a must get! It comes with a beef pirozhok, and it was instant mouthgasm -Russian dumplings is also a specialty, and it is worth a try! Very different from Asian dumplings and more similar to Italia ravioli. Our waiter recommended the pelmeni Service: this is the only thing that this place is lacking... service is more slow, and requests were not being met... I've repeatedly asked for napkins and hot Water, but they still were never brought out

This place was a lot of fun. The ambience of the place is amazing. There is a bear with goldfish in it that spins around that is a lot of fun for kids. The food was good. We tried about 15 things on the menu including almost all of the desserts. Beef Wellington and beef Ragu were the best entrées. The scallops were amazing. Steak was nothing to write home about. The baked Alaska was by far the best dessert. The crème brûlée was underwhelming. I can't remember the name of the dumplings, but the creamy dumplings were the best out of all three. Would've ordered more. The service was very friendly and nice. Did take a little while to get the bill but expected with a large group.
